Nourish Your Body
Did you know that you can you honor God by nourishing your body? The Bible gives us clear instruction in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20,
Your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Honor God with your bodies.
But, how exactly do you honor God with your body? Does Jesus want you to follow the keto diet, whole 30, or even go on a diet in the first place?
You know your body best. But, I highly doubt Jesus would want you dieting sis. Dieting can actually send your body into starvation mode!1 On top of that, dieters miss out on vital nutrients and 95% of them regain their lost weight within a year.1
Eating balanced, which includes all food groups (carbs, fat, grains, protein, dairy, vegetables, and fruits) is one definite way you can honor God and nourish your body. It also doesn’t hurt that this eating approach is supported by the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
No one is perfect, and this holds true for eating. Yet, in order to uphold the ideal of perfection, 40-50% of American women will go on a diet at one point during the year.1
But, if we stop to ponder the reason why so many women are dieting the answer is clear.
Women feel like they aren’t enough.
Our culture encourages women to diet in order to lose a few pounds and find their worth. But, when you know who you are in Christ, you can reject and discern the lies of enemy, which are rampant in the diet industry.
Remember, you are His handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works. Ephesians 2:10
Before I embraced balanced eating, I used to follow a strict diet and wouldn’t allow myself to eat certain foods. When I had my weekly “cheat” meal I would still feel guilty, because I was eating a “bad” food.
If you experience this sis, you’re not alone. This is a common feeling women experience. Keep in mind that when you decide to eat balanced, your giving your body a wide variety of nutrition, that it wouldn’t otherwise get if you put limits on what you eat.
Eating pasta with a chocolate chip cookie is balanced! Having a kale salad with chicken noodle soup is also balanced!
If you begin to feel guilt or shame when you eat a particular food, GIVE IT TO GOD. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with peace instead.
I’m pretty positive that Jesus wouldn’t want you getting worked up over a bowl of pasta. He loves you like crazy, just the way you are! He also wants you to take care of yourself. And you can do that by nourishing your body with balanced eating.
If you find yourself limiting the types of foods you eat because you want to look a certain way, remember the Lord says,
Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised. Proverbs 31:30
Although God wants us to take care of our bodies while we’re here on earth, He is more concerned with what’s on the inside versus the out. Focus on how your using your time here on earth to spread the message and love of Jesus.
